The Showrunner Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... Currently.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the popular program reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
