The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:

  • Each team includes just 8 real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
