Paceman Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground early on day two in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The series decider of the series beginning on 4 January begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have been without strike bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party to provide backup.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, taking just three wickets.

He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 with the bat being one of only three England players to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of his spell, he sent down a slower ball to Travis Head and suddenly grabbed for his hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test having missed the Adelaide game.
