Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the US has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
