Followers Demand Arrest of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the actress are demanding that a man who leaped a barricade and touched the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the Australian man shoving aside photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers walked down a promenade flanked by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account features recordings of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney performance in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last winter.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is clearly a legal violation," stated an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Well-being
Several fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more message on Instagram.
Several fans also questioned event staff at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Numerous of attendees had assembled in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including a number who had queued for as long as eight hours before it started.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a dual version of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two distinct witches.
The musical itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of last year in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, earning two for best costume and set decoration.
