Bullish Wilfried Nancy does not fear the sack but Celtic fans display fury following defeat.
The Celtic boss stated he had no concerns about the sack, asserting, “We are really close to a turnaround,” even after sliding worryingly close to the exit with a comprehensive setback against the Ibrox side.
A Second-Half Collapse Leads to Derby Loss
The home side were in front Rangers at the break but a disastrous second period enabled Danny Röhl’s team to draw level on points with the defending Scottish Premiership champions. The French coach, who was brought in from the MLS, has now presided over six defeats in eight games.
“There is unity at the club,” insisted Nancy.
Questioned about his own future, Nancy replied: “I don’t think about it. My focus is on working out methods to aid my players to improve on small moments.
Fan Fury Outside Parkhead
Hundreds of supporters voiced their fury – aimed at the dugout and directors – in their hundreds outside the stadium. The hierarchy are reportedly likely to re-appoint the interim manager, who had a fruitful caretaker period before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the reality for the moment. Yet in stating this is the reality, I am not saying that I am pessimistic. Not at all. My point is we are on the cusp, really, really close to reverse our form.”
Focus on the Details
The coach remains focused on the fact his team play well for 45 minutes at a time. For instance, but for missed chances they might have been better than 1-0 up. “There were positives aside from the fact that we didn't take a second goal,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I have also to be fair.
“The standard we had at times was really, really, really high. That is a fact. And I would not say that if it was untrue. Therefore, in terms of results, I mentioned we've seen this before. That’s why I feel a change is coming to a shift in fortunes. Right now: details, details, details.”
“We produced a lot of encouraging signs that we did, once more. However is sustaining it. My narrative would be different if I didn't believe it. Therefore I am convinced we will manage to turn things around.”
The Rangers Boss Outlook
Danny Röhl played down talk of a serious challenge in spite of what felt like a statement victory. “We take it game by game, and we can gradually build something here,” he said. “The belief in the team is outstanding.”
