The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has pulled out of her final two events in 2025 due to the illness that has affected her over the past 10 days.

These plans will involve coach Francisco Roig, as the pair will keep partnering again next season.

The tennis professional underwent blood pressure monitoring during her first-round match with Ann Li in Wuhan last week and retired when behind 6-1 4-1 on a day with extreme humidity.

She needed once more a doctor's assessment at the Ningbo Open this week, where she lost in three sets to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in round one.

Raducanu was also moving far from freely in the final set in the match with Zhu because of the lower back problem that has troubled her on several occasions in 2025.

These outcomes signaled a promising season, in which the player advanced into the world's top 30 for the first time since her previous ranking, ended with three successive defeats.

Raducanu had three match points then was defeated by American player Jessica Pegula in round three in last month's Beijing event.

The player achieved 28 matches during 2025 and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but her standout performance was at the Miami event in March.

As Britain's top player advanced to the quarters of this WTA 1000 tournament, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed on the way then falling in a three-set match to the world number four Pegula.

She was coached by Mark Petchey from Miami until Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role ahead of the US Open.

The initial agreement with the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal was until the end of the season but they will keep working together, with a training session scheduled for the end of the year.

Raducanu told that her three-day trial alongside Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they aimed to maintain secrecy.

The player was close to beating world number one Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati during August.

Roig was also with Raducanu in New York, where she made the third stage before being beaten by Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
